Cheering yourself up

Do you have ever have one of those weeks when you wake up day after day feeling just blah? In your opinion your hair looks lame, your clothes look dumpy and you are ready to sell all your belongings and start anew? Well, last week was one of those weeks for me. Instead of spending too much time posting all my belongings up on Craiglist or wallowing in self pity, Cameron ensured our evenings were spent going on long walks, eating multiple cones of ice cream and soaking up every ounce of sunshine humanly possible.

Here are some lessons I have (re)learned from the week:

Summer evenings

Especially when I witness a glorious sunset, I think about how people who have never been to Seattle think of it as grey, cloudy and rainy. If only they knew the beautiful side of Seattle, the spectacular sunsets and the endless colors in the sky. If they did then everyone would move here.

When the lights go down

When the sunlight fades in the city, you might not even look up from what you are doing to appreciate it. However, when I am camping I pause and have the whole evening to celebrate its glory. Sunsets are like a good friends: steady, constant, and if you want to hang out it is fine by them.

The study of clouds and light

The lengthening of days means more family walks, more sunsets watched, more beauty enjoyed and a lot more studying of clouds. Sometimes the sky looks so much like a painting I can hardly take it all in. I am always armed with a camera because you never know what kind of wonderful you will be able to capture.

The impending brilliance is about to begin......

 I am fascinated with anything in silhouette.

I never grow tired of long walks, good conversation with my husband, wandering down new streets or soaking up a bit of sunshine at the end of the day.

All in a day's work

As the days get longer; we sometimes are treated with a sunset walk after work. We have the unique pleasure of enjoying spectacular views, watching ferries, sunsets, and wildlife just minutes from our home. The best part, it is never particularly crowded and in general people tend to stay indoors unless it is a balmy seventy degree day. Look at what they are missing out on!!

Regret

Do you ever have a little voice in your head that tells you to do something and you ignore it? Only to discover later why you wished you would have listened. The other evening we went on a walk and I decided not to grab my camera. I figured I really did not need another sunset photo and sometimes I end up carrying it for miles without even taking one photo. Oh how wrong I was!! The sunset started out regularly enough, but before I knew it the sky light up with a symphony of color. Bright swaths of red, orange and pink painted the sky and the clouds looked like they were on fire. People of all walks of life were pausing to enjoy it, taking out there phones and literally pulling off to the side of the road to capture it. For a moment it was so glorious I could hardly believe my eyes. I have witnessed many sunsets, but it is rare to see such a spectacular one. The most unfortunate part was all I had was an iphone to capture it, but I am grateful I had something.
