The walls that bounce back

I have heard it said it takes approximately six months to make a house feel like a home, I would challenge you to aim for a month. The thought of living in a state of unfinished business for six months makes me crazy. However, we have come across a few stumbling blocks in making our house feel like a home. In particular, hammering a nail into our walls is no easy task. As a result, our collection of artwork has predominately remained propped against walls. Undecided whether we are going to purchase/make a bench, console or coat rack for our front entry I decided to take a handful of photos, some japanese masking tape and create a temporary photo installation. It is a great way to get those photos off the computer and much less expensive than having them all printed, matted and framed. For now, this is a good temporary solution to a longer term design dilemma.

Interactive wallpaper

This wallpaper is the brainchild of designers Taylor and Wood. Entitled "Frames" this wallpaper can be as interactive as you would like. You can allow yourselves or your children to paint right on it, or you can post pictures or postcards on it. Sheer brilliance!! I envision this one day in my own home.

Perfectly appointed

I know these photos are typically staged by professionals, but they make you feel like someone out there actually does live like this and that you could easily waltz in and take over their life. I love a room with perfectly appointed accessories and pops of colors. Through work people oftentimes ask what colors I have in my house, which I then proceed to tell them I do not have a house, but if I did I would paint all the walls white and let the stuff do the talking.

Creative Solutions

I like to frequent this certain bakery.
I really should frequent their bathroom too
because I like it as much as their food.
The pictures are a bit lame,
but this stupid lady was knocking on the door.
I mean who knocks on single stall restrooms anyways??
Obviously I was busy, busy taking pics that is.
All that they did was put various lengths of 2 x 4 up on the wall,
they were probably just construction scraps.
Clever.

Perks??

Every job has certain perks to it, but I am certain my perk could also be my downfall. Yesterday we had a lunch presentation at this new to the trade only showroom. This is a great example of how I am constantly surrounded by beautiful things ie. furniture, tile, hardware, materials in general. The worst part is that cooler items are always coming out so there is always something new that I both want and love. Such the dilemma.

Just my style

There is this design firm in Seattle called Elemental Architecture that creates these wonderful canvases to live in. I call them move in ready because I am ready to move into one.

Finished product

This morning I had the opportunity to photograph some of my work. Usually, I do not have the time to do so, so it was a rare and delightful treat. I also brought Cameron along with me, which was nice to show him one of the many projects he gets to hear all about, but never see.

I am in love

I am in love with this furniture. Doshi Levien from India and her british husband create these fabulous east meets west pieces and with a name like "My Beautiful Backside", who could resist?? Their work has been described as "girlish whimsy meets construction and technology. What a perfect marriage....

Situ studios

Situ Studios is this interesting firm that works on lightweight, easily constructed, low impact on the environment, temporary installations. They come with no plan, which allows for multiple configurations and endless possibilities. Most notable, they are using Cereplast which is a corn starch based plastic product. What will they think of next? The future of the design world looks greener and this excites me. My super hip friend who lives in New York will have to let us know if he saw this installation or not. Such amazing things do not come to little places like Seattle.

Design idea

I am always on the look out for quick and easy ways to provide visual interest to the mundane items around my home. The other day I was looking on a design blog when I came across the idea of grouping your books according to color. I have done this for many years with my clothes closet, but the thought never crossed my mind to do so with my books. So, the other night I started shuffling around books and making piles while Cameron gave me that "what are you up to" look. An hour or so later, viola my masterpiece was done and my books now have a fresh look to them. Such a clever idea.
