Living in Seattle, water is such an important part of our everyday life. We are spoiled to enjoy wonderful water views almost anywhere we head in the city. One of my favorite things to do on a nice day is go for a midday paddle. Last week, Cameron and I participated in our very first
Sunset tour with
Kayak Alki. After a thorough briefing on equipment, technique, safety, and route we left from the shore of Alki beach. We paddled down toward the Duwamish and then cut across the Puget Sound to downtown Seattle. The water was calm, the skies were clear and how many other cities can you kayak past a ferry while enjoying the cityscape?
Scott, our guide, was so kind and patient. He gave even the most inexperienced people in our group the confidence to have a fun, safe and enjoyable evening paddling. There were only six other people in our group, but two of them had never been kayaking before. One of the best things about kayaking is how easy it is for beginners to pick up. Practice makes perfect, and you can make it as taxing or as easy of a workout as you like.

Scott going over our route, so we are all on the same page. |

Along the way, Scott talked about the history of Seattle and mentioned certain points of interest. |

I appreciated how small the group size was. We were able to stick close together without feeling like other people were in our way. |
|
If I had to show one photograph to explain why I love this city, this might be the shot. Seattle might be know for its rain, but we have some spectacular Summer days too. |
|
The Sound was so calm, a perfect evening on the water. |

Passing ferries while we kayak, yeah we are cool like that. |
|
Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. Remember, it is important to stay hydrated while kayaking. |

The sunset on the water was brilliant and then it quickly fades. |
