When your Mom gives you lemons....

When my Mom goes out of town, I become the happy recipient of whatever perishables are still in her refrigerator. This time I was the recipient of a whole bag of Meyer lemons. I wanted to make something delicious with them, so first I made lemon curd and then I decided to make lemon cake. I was very pleased with the results and rather enjoyed the lemon-blueberry flavor combination. Something about the layered cake was feeling festive, so then I decided to make little flags.

While in San Francisco, I came across these Weck jars. They are my favorite thing for giving lemon curd in.

I wanted the cake to feel rustic, so instead of finishing the cake clean side up, I decided to expose the cut side.

What are your favorite lemon recipes?

Stars and stripes

This year the Fourth of July consisted of a pancake breakfast at church, BBQ with extended family and fireworks over San Francisco Bay.

I love how festive everyone was dressed at the pancake breakfast, especially Cameron's Grandma with her stars and stripes shirt. Together Cameron and I had red, white and blue on.

The flag raising ceremony.

At the breakfast, you had your choice of maple syrup or strawberries with whipped cream on your pancakes. I thought strawberries were much more festive.

Cameron's aunt was kind enough to invite us over for a delicious family BBQ. We were also able to see Cameron's cousin, Mike one last time before he went off on his mission. If you want to feel short just stand between these two tall handsome men.

Later that evening, I had some fun messing with the fireworks setting on my camera during the fireworks show. I had fun trying to capture them right before they would explode into fireworks.

After the fireworks the traffic downtown was crazy. We were glad we decided to stay downtown for the evening.

Happy Fourth!!

Fireworks are one of the trickiest things to photograph. I always debate between enjoying the show and spending time fiddling with my camera. Watching the fireworks explode over the Golden Gate bridge has been a tradition for us over the past few years.
