D.I.Y: Cactus Terrariums

A terrarium is a good way to keep plants indoor with minimal care. A friend of mine gave me a cactus as a housewarming gift and it got my wheels turning. I already had these glass jars, but picked up some sand, rocks and a couple new cactuses. In a little under an hour, I had a new display of terrariums on my coffee table.
Ravenna Gardens is one of my favorite shops to buy plants. You can buy with confidence knowing they have taken care of your plant prior to purchasing it.  This little cactus is called a Chocolate Soldier.

My sister would love these. She's always trying to grow cactus's in her house in Idaho because she loves the desert (we grew up in Las Vegas). Is it sand on the bottom and then small rocks that you plant the cactus in?

I did a layer of sand, a small layer of rock, then I placed the cactus and then added additional rock up to the top of the plant. You can also get all fancy and do several layers of different colors of sand.

Thanks. I think I'll send her this link (if she ever looks through her email, she'll see it).
