Seeing with new eyes

This past week, we took the opportunity to spend the evening hiking after work, such a refreshing break it was from the monotony of the week. Doing something out of the norm during the week gives me the same giddy feeling I received as a child upon staying out late on a school night. Out of necessity we frequently go hiking to the same spots and so I am oftentimes remind of this quote by Marcel Proust, "The real art of discovery consists not in finding new lands, but in seeing with new eyes." I identify with this quote because being a native to Washington and having repeatedly visited many of the same places I must dig deeper to find enjoyment out of experiences aside from the fact that it was just new to me. There is a certain satisfaction with oneself that must be achieved in order to be able to be content in a place for any extended period of time. And so I present Rattlesnake Ridge for the upteenth time.
