45th Annual Festival of the Fountains

For the second year running, Cameron and I were able to take part in The Festival of the Fountains. Having attended last year, we knew what to expect: artfully displayed food, friendly conversation and an excellent excuse to get dressed up and have a great time. The weather cooperated, albeit a tad windy and I was most ecstatic I had the foresight to grab my wool blazer. Only in Seattle can you get away with wool in the Summer and be the wiser one. I saw many women freezing in their evening gowns, but I was happy to be a bit more practical and bundled up.

After cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres, we started our meal with heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese and bacon dressed with balsamic vinegar.

Our main course was filet mignon Oscar style on a bed of yukon gold potatoes and asparagus. For dessert we had pineapple upside down cake and then there was an additional dessert table right by the dance floor entitled Homage to Hostess.

This was their version of the Twinkie all grown up.

We ate dinner under the glowing orbs and then had the opportunity to explore the Science Center or dance the night away under the ever changing lights.

I played it safe and went with a little black dress. I then had to take it a step further and accessorize it with a gigantic pink flower in my hair and a gold belt.

Overall, the response to my enormous flower seemed positive. Some people thought it was a hat, but even the butterflies in the Butterfly House stopped to take notice.

We were lucky to be able to take part in this event again this year and grateful for all the hard work that went into making this night a success.

What a fun night!

I'm going to remember that flower trick! I always want a butterfly to land on me in the butterfly house!
