Eating our way through the weekend

After church on Sundays, we usually take long walks around the neighborhood to not only get some fresh air, but to enjoy all the beauty which surrounds us. On this particular day, we decided to make our walk a productive one since we were expecting dinner guests. We picked until our fingers were berry stained and we had been stuck by enough blackberry bushes for the day. We brought our bounty home and I made this Peach and Blackberry Galette, adapted from the Apricot-Blackberry Galette recipe in the Martha Stewart Baking Handbook. The galette, just like the pesto was devoured instantly, which is always a good sign of a great meal.

Homemade pesto made from our balcony garden.

For many years we have heard about this fabled place, a mecca to root beer and all things unhealthy. At the threshold of the restaurant, there is a sign that states, "anything you eat here is not good for you". Statements such as this, encourage throngs of people to come back for more, but having experienced XXX Rootbeer, I can proudly say not me. Their root beer is something to aspire to, with its frosty glass mug, pure cane sugar and uniquely sweet taste. You can have it on the rocks, without the rocks (it will cost you) and paired with vanilla ice cream for a rootbeer float experience fit for a king. In the end, there was one happy man drinking his beverage of choice and I relishing in the dichotomy of our food preferences.
